The Challenge
The Company decided to relocate its world headquarters to The Spiral Building in NYC’s newest neighborhood, Hudson Yards. The move was necessitated by the Company’s need to provide a more comfortable and efficient workplace for its employees, accommodate an increasing demand for meeting and collaboration spaces as well as reduce the company’s carbon footprint. TRITECH was selected to provide the Audio Visual and Power Over Ethernet (PoE) lighting systems and become an integral member of the engineering and implementation teams that would be building out the facility. Covering more than 800,000 square feet, the project presented the teams with many issues to be addressed and resolved, over the span of the project. Adding to the typical construction challenges of scheduling, coordination, supply chain, personnel, etc., were the requirements for the building to utilize “green” methods and technologies, wherever possible. Additionally, PoE systems on this scale were relatively new to the traditional construction methodologies utilized on the site.
The Solutions
The AV systems utilize a Master Control center to centralize monitoring and control of hundreds of Crestron NVX endpoints as well as the TRITECH installed data network the systems reside on. The control room also houses the Studio Production systems that allow video and voice recording and editing of meetings held in many of the hundreds of meeting rooms throughout the facility. A Tricaster system provides creators the flexibility to record or broadcast meetings throughout the facility or globally. A divisible, multi-level, configurable conference space features multiple Planar direct-view LED displays of varying sizes and configurations. The audio systems utilize digital processing and switching to provide local speech reinforcement, as well as feeds to archiving and broadcast systems through the Master Control Room. Conference spaces of varying sizes and technology are strategically spread throughout the building. Specialty spaces such as a Town Hall, dining and casual meeting rooms are equipped with conferencing and content sharing capabilities making them truly multi-functional, highly utilized collaboration environments.
PoE systems were chosen because of their ability to save costs, both installation and operating, ease of control and integration into the overall Building Management Systems (BMS). TRITECH installed more than one million feet of data cabling, connecting thousands of nodes spread across the facility. Thousands of fixtures, sensors (motion, temperature, occupancy, noise, air quality and more) and wall controllers make up one of the largest PoE systems in the country. The systems provided offer the building’s operations team the ability to monitor, update and service the devices with minimal disruption to the company’s important work. Systems can be easily reconfigured, schedules changed, and presets enabled remotely, in an energy efficient and effective environment.
The Outcome
The new headquarters is a model of comfort, efficiency, and environmental stewardship that provides all who work and visit a safe and enjoyable experience. TRITECH is proud to have played a role in bringing the beautiful and exciting facility to its well-deserved place as an outstanding example of how technology can transform and improve our lives while protecting our environment.
